Some Words From Aggie’s Kitchen

HELLO!  Welcome to the fantasy world of The Water Door; a world full of fascinating people, spectacular phenomena, incredible happenings, and amazing FOOD! As I wrote about Jeremy and Josh, I wanted to describe the meals their family enjoyed together. The recipes in What’s for Food? were inspired by my own family, like my mother and especially my grandmother who always made me tea!

My father’s mother was also a very good cook and baker. She always had a fluffy, homemade coconut cake with creamy vanilla icing sitting on the counter. Yep! That recipe is in this book!

My husband, oldest son, and son-in-law are chefs. My daughter was also a very talented cook. Their welcomed suggestions have made this book special!

My dear father did his best. Leftovers were his specialty. I and my sisters fondly remember “Dad’s ugly meals.” HA! However, he made a great pot roast. His yummy recipe is in this book!

Throughout my life I have had much exposure to culinary culture in all its many forms. Home cooking, restaurants, backyard barbeques, etc. I must admit I enjoy home cooking in a lovingly-cluttered kitchen the best!  Here is why:

I have spent many hours basking in the warmth my family’s different kitchens, enjoying the tastes, smells and laughter that makes a kitchen a happy place. Growing up I got to lick a lot of spoons covered with icing or gooey cookie dough! I also got to sip savory broths and gravies from the bowls of dripping ladles, too. Those times are some of my best memories, and I wanted to share those memories with you!

By the way, I cooked each dish, condiment, cookie, and cake in this book in my own kitchen and all of them are scrumptious! Well, all that is except for the last one. BE BRAVE! You will have to try that one yourself!

Don’t forget to create your own recipes, too!

So, what recipe will you try first? All I can say is, “is get out your pots and pans and have fun cooking, What’s for Food?!”
